The Purpose of Change
Imagine a workspace that not only accommodates but inspires, that not only meets the needs of the present but anticipates the future. This is the new headquarters of Mercado Livre in Brazil, a reference in sustainability and innovation. Since 2016, when they carried out a retrofit of the facilities, the space has been understood as a way to delight talent and bring partners and customers closer together.
After the Covid-19 pandemic, the need arose to adapt this space to new work models, promoting flexibility. According to Mercado Livre’s Real Estate Manager, creating a collaborative workspace faced challenges in terms of integrating technologies for efficient communication, adapting the layout to support flexible work, and maintaining the organizational culture. “We overcame these challenges by implementing modular furniture and flexible work areas, promoting regular meetings and informal activities, in addition to using project management tools and continuous feedback to monitor and support employee performance and well-being,” says the manager.
About the project
The needs of employees, as assessed through ongoing research and feedback, resulted in coworking areas, informal meeting rooms and spaces to promote mobility. The main inspiration for the design was the high-end hospitality found in boutique hotels. “This inspiration manifests itself in the choice of comfortable and elegant furniture, in the attention to aesthetic details and in the creation of multifunctional spaces that promote both collaboration and privacy,” highlights the manager.
The strategy used to deliver the project on time and within budget was based on:
- Project Management: implementation of detailed schedules and clear responsibilities, with the support of the regional team, an Architecture company from São Paulo, responsible for the design and architectural projects of this space, the architecture sector of Mercado Livre.
- Progress Reviews: weekly meetings to monitor the progress of the works and adjust strategies, carried out by a construction company from São Paulo. In this and the following stages, there was fundamental support from the technical team, represented by the project manager, facilities team and supervision of Real Estate, Projects and Facilities.
- Financial Planning and Cost Control: a detailed budget was established with contingency margins and monitoring of all expenses.
- Phased Execution: Planning execution in phases to minimize impact on daily operations and resolve issues early.
- Flexibility and Adaptability: Maintaining a flexible approach to adjust plans and allocate resources as needed.
- Support from a product and service supplier with extensive expertise and a diversity of product lines to centralize the project’s demand in its entirety.
Conclusion
The complete furniture and logistics services provided by the Pett Capellato Solutions Hub were essential for creating flexible and elegant work areas, complementing the design inspired by boutique hotels and meeting the diverse needs of employees.
In addition to the quality of the furniture, sofas and chairs, the architect highlighted the support for the project, compliance with the agreed deadlines, the efficient assembly team and the wide range of products offered as very important differentiators. The possibility of obtaining customized products was also a highly positive point in the service provided by the Pett Capellato team. These aspects resolved many issues reliably, allowing those responsible to focus on the many other important items that a project of this size requires, saving substantial time and energy.
The Pett Capellato Solutions Hub stands out as a true curator of products for corporate, home office and outdoor environments, offering architects and companies an increasingly broad portfolio of items – national and imported – with original and high-quality designs, meeting people’s needs with efficiency and style.
